Warner Robins, GA  I think one of the most intimidating issues (real or perceived) facing any competitor, fan or crew member who wants to attend or race in Canada is crossing the border.  I remember the first time we crossed over with our car and trailer to race at Grand Bend in 2002 with the National Street Car Association.  We just didn't know what to expect.  You always seem to hear the 'horror stories' of how racer X had to leave someone in a hotel at the border or how another team had their t-shirts confiscated or some other equally unnerving revelation.  While some folks have had problems, it represents a very small percentage of individuals who cross into Canada to attend racing events.  Our team has never had a problem getting into Canada or coming back into the US.  2010 will be our 8th season crossing the border for racing events in Ontario, we do not anticipate anything changing.

Here are a few common sense thoughts, don't bring guns into Canada, limit the alcohol and tobacco to a reasonable amount if you indulge and be courteous to the border officials.  Many are young people.  Treat them with respect and they will treat you the same way.

Identification papers are essential.  Here's a quote from the Canadian Border Services website, "When you enter Canada, a border services officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, when necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada; however, you should carry proof of your citizenship such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization or a Certificate of Indian Status, as well as a photo ID. If you are a permanent resident of the United States, you must bring your permanent resident card (i.e. green card) with you. For more information on admissibility into Canada, read the fact sheet called Managing Access to Canada. It is available on our Web site at CBSA link ".
